The onion topper VT 220 is used for an efficient haulm reduction and pre-harvest treatment before windrowing. The machine can be used for both front- and rear attachment. The rotating blade sets with their innovative geometry create a high suction effect, which sets up the haulm before it is cut off by the blades. The very sensitive height guidance of the onion topper causes the machine to run very smoothly and ensures a constant cutting height at all times. With the topper, type VT 220, beds can be treated within a track widths of 200 to 225 cm. The machine is designed for combination with the GRIMME windrower, Type WV.

Innovative blade geometry

The machine is equipped with special upwardly curved blades, which thereby achieve such a high suction capacity that even low-lying, heavy onion tops can be raised and cut off.

Exact height guidance

Automatic height guidance is provided by means of two skids, so that the right and left side of the machine can be guided in height independently of each other. This feature forms the basis for a precise topping at the desired height.

Automatic lowering and lifting at the headlands

The automatic height guide stops as soon as the machine is lifted. The extension/retraction of the support wheels is prevented when the skids fall down. During a defined interval the support wheels are extended, so that the crop is not topped to deep, when the machine is lowered after turning at the headland.

Variability

Depending on the requirements, the onion topper can be configured only for front- or only for rear attachment. Alternatively, there is a machine model that can be used for both front- and rear-attachment.There are also several chassis combinations to choose from.

Little wear, safe power transmission and easy cleaning

Reliable power transmission due to central gearbox fitted above the middle rotor. The number of belts and tensioners could be reduced, making maintenance operations more friendly. The large maintenance flaps also facilitate cleaning from the inside.

Optimally coordinated machine combination

The automatic height guidance is installed in both the vegetable topper, type VT, and the windrower for vegetables, type WV. In consequence the two implements match perfectly to each other.
